 The Conference on Islam and Science was organized in Konya in 1970, upon the invitation of the youth from "Higher Education," under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan. The purpose of this conference was to counter the thesis put forward by Western orientalists claiming that Islam hinders progress. Utilizing his status as a scholar, Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan provided responses to this thesis based on the technological level of that time. Erbakan, who became Turkey's youngest associate professor and graduated with top honors from all the schools he attended, has been a pioneer in numerous scientific studies.
